Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site.
On our website, we use Google Analytics to measure how the site is performing. Essentially, this gives us information about what things are popular, how people move through the site, how long they spend on the site and which pages they visit while they’re here. For this to work, the Analytics system writes a cookie onto your device, which simply identifies that you're looking at the site. It doesn’t tell us who you are, or any personal details. Location is logged, but only at the level of a particular town, not more detailed than that. Google Analytics can also tell us what browsers are being used to look at the site, and the screen resolutions being used. This information is important so that we can plan the path of future updates and improvements to the site.
We only use one other cookie, and that stores a unique number that is created each time you navigate to our website, and then destroyed when you leave. This is an essential cookie that is used by the website systems to make sure that only a single copy of the site is running at any one time, no matter how many windows or tabs you may have open. It doesn’t collect any information on the user.
